Campbell County leaders break ground on 100,000 square foot industrial building

Campbell County leaders, the Lynchburg Regional Business Alliance, and several politicians broke ground for the construction of a new 100,000 square foot industrial building.

The Campbell County Economic Development Authority hosted the ceremony Tuesday afternoon at Seneca Commerce Park. County leaders said this $11 million industrial building project represents the largest initiative undertaken by the Campbell County Economic Development Department in over a decade and signals the beginning of multiple development projects.

Campbell County leaders said plans include a second 45,000-square-foot building and a pad-ready site on 3.5 acres, each designed to attract high-impact businesses and accelerate investment in the region.

Lynchburg Regional Business Alliance CEO Megan Lucas said this was all made possible by years of hard work from the board of supervisors, as well as two grants the county received.

Below are the grants:

  1. Virginia Tobacco Region Revitalization Commission ($404,000)
  2. Southeast Crescent Regional Commission ($202,000)

Lucas said that while no one has bought the building yet, she said it won't take long for someone to take advantage of the space.

"When this was announced last year that they were going to do this, we already had interested industries reach out for more information," Lucas said. "I have no doubt that those industries have been watching the progress and will watch the progress and will reach out when they get ready to learn more about investing in Campbell County and the region."

Campbell County Board of Supervisors Chairman Justin Carwile said he and the board are excited for what this will do for the county and hope this shows the county wants more businesses and industries coming to the area.

"We have great schools, amazing, moral families, and Campbell County is just a great place to live, work, and start a business," Carwile said. "The entire area is high value, and so my message is come to Campbell County - please be part of our family - we'd love to be a part of yours."

Leaders said Seneca Commerce Park has seven parcels totaling more than 58.7 acres that remain available for future development within the park. Carwile said the board is actively working to make more sites ready and available.
